There are bound to be some questions, hopefully these will be covered below, but if not please contact us, details at the bottom of this page. We are aware that some customers may find the whole process of converting slides to digital images daunting. We are here to help in any way we can and provide a complete service. All you need to do is parcel your slides and send them to us (we strongly recommend special delivery) and we will return them with the images recorded in the format requested. The process is normally completed within 28 working days.
What is DPI?
DPI stands for: Dots Per Inch (and is also know as PPI: Pixels Per Inch). Both refer to the number of dots or pixels in every square inch of an image. Scanning a small original at a high resolution allows one to reproduce it at a larger size. As a bitmap image is enlarged, the effective resolution is reduced.
What size are the images that you scan?
We scan all images at all resolutions up to 4800dpi where appropriate - this produces an image size that is usually about 55Mb in size although this varies a great deal depending on the original image quality and age, so you can fit approximately 11 onto a CD or 85 onto a DVD, If scanned as .tiff files.
What size slides or negatives do you scan?
We can scan almost all known formats of slides or negatives, we have several different scanners that allow us to do this.
What format do you scan in?
We offer two different services you can choose to have your images scanned as jpegs only or jpeg and tiff files. Other formats available on request.
What can I use a Jpeg file for?
Jpegs are best used for working with on your computer i.e. editing, uploading to the internet, e-mailing and in slide shows.
What can I use a Tiff file for?
Tiff files are large format and require lots of disk space and a powerful pc to display efficiently, they are best used for creating prints of your images up to A2 size
How do I send my negatives or slides to you?
You can send your slides or negatives to us via Royal Mail or courier.
